DISTRICT COOLING

OVERVIEW

DISTRICT COOLING SYSTEM (DCS)

Distributes cooling to multiple buildings by producing chilled water at a central utilities plant (CUP) and passing them through underground distribution network for air conditioning use. Each resident purchases chilled water for cooling in their area without the needs to install their own chiller or air-conditioners.

DSC has proven to be a major contributor to greenhouse gas reduction and is now widely used in building complexes and communities, such as downtown business districts, mixed-use properties, and college campuses.

COMPONENTS

Our DCS comprises the following components

Central Utilities Plant (CUP)

Generate chilled water for cooling.

DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

Carry chilled water from the CUP or storage tanks to the energy transfer station via chilled water supply pipe in utilities tunnel.

ENERGY TRANSFER STATION (ETS)

Transfer cooling to air-conditioning units inside the building.

The chilled water from CUP is transferred to Plate Heat Exchanger, which is connected to fancoil units to distribute cooling in each room. Once the water temperature is higher, the water will be transferred back to the CUP to cool down again.

USER’S EXPENSES

UTILITIES AND MAINTENANCE FEE

Utilities fee will be measured by the BTU meter or Energy meter, installed in each air-conditioned area. It measures the actual cooling consumption by using chilled water and sends a signal back to the CUP to record real time consumption. The fee is expected to reduce 5-10% compared to conventional air-conditioner due to higher efficiency.

Maintenance fee is lower and faster as users do not need to clean outdoor units. Only air-side unit is required for maintenance.
